Jarlsberg Lite is Parent Tested, Parent Approved!

August 29, 2011

We’re delighted that PTPA (Parent Tested, Parent Approved) considers Jarlsberg Lite a winning product for parents-to-be and families in general.  Did you know the amount of dairy—for the protein and Vitamin D, to build healthy bones—recommended by the Mayo Clinic is 3 cups?

Jarlsberg Lite is an excellent source of calcium (25% of the daily requirement) for anyone not lactose sensitive, including moms-to-be.  Here are some fun ways to serve it up:

  • Roll it up and go!  No need to make a fast food stop when lunch is this easy: On low fat whole grain tortilla, layer 1 slice low-sodium turkey, chicken or ham with 1 slice Jarlsberg Lite.  Top with shredded lettuce and carrots tossed with a bit of low fat mayo, plump golden raisins and/or sliced grapes.
  • Peek-a-Boo Toast. Use a round cookie cutter and cut a 3-4” circle in a piece of whole wheat or multigrain bread.  Heat a non-stick pan sprayed with light cooking oil on medium low.  Place bread in pan and lightly toast bottom side before cracking an egg inside the circle.   When egg white sets, carefully flip once and cook egg yolk to desired doneness.  Before serving, melt a thin slice or grating of Jarlsberg Lite on top.
  • Use cookie cutters to make easy, cheesy cut-outs and pair the cheeses with whole grain breads, thin sliced apples, pear and cucumbers.  Cookie-cut toasted bread and cheese to size for fun-shaped grilled cheese nibbles or to float on top of soup.

Try Jarlsberg Lite in this fab Mac and Cheese we discovered at FIT PREGNANCY.  And, if you’re a mom-to-be, this comprehensive healthier eating article can also be found at FIT PREGNANCY.
