ADRIAN ASHBY – GRILLED JARLSBERG & SPROUT SLAW

Delicious Jarlsberg Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, being cooked up for the 5 Boro PicNYC
Adrian Ashby’s inspiration for the Jarlsberg Grilled Cheese Cook-Off came out of necessity. “I wanted something colorful and flavorful yet healthy and low maintenance. Especially after knowing there would be an abundance of meat!!! Sprout Slaw!”
Here’s an idea of what goes into that Sprout Slaw, in quantities to suit your tastes:
- Red Cabbage (shredded)
- Red Onions (thinly sliced)
- Carrots (shredded)
- Cilantro (chopped)
- Soy Bean Sprouts
- Alfalfa Sprouts
Then mix together the “dressing”, also to taste:
- Horseradish
- Strawberries (chopped)
- Balsamic Vinegar
- Sea Salt
- Sugar
Mix shredded veggies with dressing.
To build a Grilled Jarlsberg and Sprout Slaw Sandwich:
Lightly butter outside of two bread slices. Grate 2 ounces Jarlsberg cheese onto one slice of bread; top with generous tablespoon of sprout slaw. Make sandwich with second slice of bread, and grill on flattop or skillet over low medium heat (or low to medium heat coals).
